    Foreign Countries

    α
    Sifting through Great Sand Dunes
in the mountain’s shadow searching for sea shells
is as fruitless as dwelling on your past

    β
Sea fog hides a great ship elegant as a swan
slowly parting the mist with its prow
    the journey shrouded

    γ
I once called the rocks by their names
    clouds too but they changed
    no longer answering

    δ
Voices of other times cannot be heard
    waiting for no one
    immune even to conjuring

S2&3 stand out for me. Really like those.

    Agree with this.

Have you ever read W. S. Merwin's Asian Figures? Reminds me of some of these.

    I like this stanza:

I once called the rocks by their names
    clouds too but they changed

    no longer answering
